Lagos is certainly only a small town but is more than 2.000 years old and with an interesting history. While in Sagres, a city that is located further to the west, the sailors were trained, in Lagos, the fleet and the big harbour were located. Today Lagos is a small town with charm although touristically developed, the centre is preserved and visitors can stroll through the small lanes. Attractions include the slave market, the old city walls and the Museum in Lagos, as well as the “Church of Santo Antonio”. Opposite the long and sandy stretch of beach: “Meia Praia “ are the up to 20 meters high rock and cliff formations of the “Ponta da Piedade” with some bizarre bays and hidden beaches. Ponta da Piedade can be certainly explored on foot from above; but from the sea, the lava domes and cliffs are much more imposing to look at. From Lagos boat tours start to the cliff sides.
